England Day 11: Dartmouth

Today we took the steam engine into Dartmouth, a little port city in South Devon. It was legit like Thomas the Tank Engine, and we chugged along the coastline, passing tiny beachside towns, rolling hills, shetland ponies, and horses grazing in pastures. When the conductor came to HOLE PUNCH our tickets, I almost took a photo of him, but figured that might not be socially acceptable.

After pulling in to the station, we hopped on a little ferry that carried us over to Dartmouth. The seafront shops and houses (multi-coloured of course) beckoned to us as seagulls flew overhead and the smell of fish and chips wafted over the water.

The town itself was pretty small, and mostly closed as it was a Sunday. We looked in a little bookstore and then got Devon Cream Tea at The Singing Kettle, a quaint tea room nestled into a side road. The tea and scones and clotted and jam were delicious, and it would have been perfect had the servers not been so quite pretentious. I mean come on. It's not a cordon bleu. It would have been a lot more enjoyable if everyone had relaxed and sipped their tea amicably.

After tea, we bought some gifts at little gift shops, wandered through a flower garden, and headed home on the ferry and steam engine. A pretty perfect day was had by all!

Love always,
Coral
